Christmas and New Year in Singapore: The Complete Guide
Singapore's Christmas runs on two stages: Orchard Road's golden light-up and Christmas villages on one side of town, and Gardens by the Bay's train show and Christmas Wonderland on the other, with a symphony concert, an island festival and a Sentosa season between them, before the year closes with the Marina Bay Countdown. The complete season in one guide, joining up this site's Orchard Road and Bay guides, with what is confirmed and what is still to come.
Christmas in Singapore is a season of evenings, and it runs on two stages. Across town, Orchard Road dresses its shopping belt in gold and opens two Christmas villages. At the water, Gardens by the Bay fills a dome with model trains by day and a fairground under the Supertrees by night, and the bay behind it builds towards the countdown that closes the year. This guide is the whole season in one place. It joins up this site's two detailed planners rather than replacing them: Christmas on A Great Street for Orchard Road, and Christmas Wonderland and the Bay for the gardens. What follows is the order to do them in, the dates that matter, and the honest split between what is confirmed and what is still to come.
Act One: Orchard Road Switches On
The season's formal opening is the Christmas on A Great Street light-up on Tuesday 17 November 2026, in a Community Chest ceremony at Shaw House Urban Plaza officiated by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. From that evening, 3.1 km of gold lights run from Tanglin Road to Dhoby Ghaut until Sunday 3 January 2027, under the theme Season of Golden Joy: vine-inspired decorations, Christmas trees and mistletoe in three shades of gold, in the light-up's 43rd year. The hours are generous, 6.30pm to midnight from Sunday to Thursday, to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and right through to 6am on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The carnival half, the Great Christmas Village, opens in two parts: Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from Friday 13 November, and Shaw House Urban Plaza from Friday 20 November, both 3pm to 10pm daily to 3 January, with 50 game booths and rides between them. Around the villages sit the season's set pieces: Singapore's first LEGO Santa's Toy Factory at Ngee Ann City from 13 November to 22 December, a 13 metre Avengers: Doomsday Christmas tree with a life-size Doctor Doom from 12 November, a glowing 6.2 metre Christmas Merli above Shaw House, five photo installations along the road, and a nightly projection show on the Hilton Singapore Orchard facade. The street itself costs nothing; you pay inside the villages and the shops. The season's biggest single night on the road is Thursday 24 December, when the Great Christmas Eve Street Party closes Orchard Road to traffic for performances, a mascot parade, food trucks and the countdown to Christmas Day. The Orchard Road guide walks the whole stretch, including the first Orchard Road Tourist Pass, ORBA's own card of hotel rates and vouchers.
Act Two: The Trains, Then the Fair
The Bay opens its season three days later, indoors. The Christmas Train Show returns to the Flower Dome from 20 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, 9am to 9pm, model trains looping through botanical railway scenes from the American coasts and heartlands and a larger Singapore section, ending at a snowy Rovaniemi. There is no separate ticket: entry rides on Flower Dome admission, S$12 for a resident adult.

Then, a week later, the fair. Christmas Wonderland takes over the Supertree Grove and The Meadow from Friday 27 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, and this year its dates are confirmed, published by the Gardens for the fair's 13th edition: gates from 6.30pm to 11pm, last admission at 10.15pm, in timed entry sessions through the evening. The shape is the established one: the 20 metre Spalliera light structure at the centre of the grove, the festive market along Mistletoe Alley, carnival rides and games, and Blizzard Time, the fall of foam snow that follows the Garden Rhapsody show. Ticket prices were still to be released when we checked, with children under three free in past editions, so buy through the organiser or its presenting partner Trip.com when the table lands, and take a weekday in the first half of the run for the market at walking pace. The natural pairing stands: a Flower Dome afternoon, a Wonderland evening.
The Island's Other Christmases
Two more programmes widen the season beyond the two main stages. On Sentosa, Season of Joy runs at Resorts World Sentosa from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 with a Korean wave theme: Glowcean Wonderland inside Singapore Oceanarium, A Universal Christmas at Universal Studios Singapore, a K-Wave Christmas at Adventure Cove Waterpark and the Colours of our Wishes installation at WEAVE. The resort's public spaces are free to enter and the attractions are ticketed separately, which makes it the family heavy alternative to the Bay, and the two split a long weekend comfortably. And for one weekend only, 27 to 29 November from 10am, Christmas Together fills Hall F of the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore's largest indoor Christmas festival and the season's one big event under a roof, free to enter.
The Season's Concert
The formal night out of the season is at the Esplanade. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra's Christmas Concert plays on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December at 7.30pm: selections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, including the complete second act, John Rutter's Gloria, and a Christmas medley with audience singalongs, sung by the Singapore Symphony Chorus with the Youth and Children's Choirs and conducted by Associate Conductor Nathanaël Iselin. Tickets run S$48 to S$228 through the SSO and SISTIC. Our concert guide covers the programme in full. It is the countdown's opposite in every way, three weeks earlier and a world quieter, and it sells on its own schedule.
The Season from Above
Between the two acts, the Singapore Flyer gives the season its viewpoint: a 30 minute rotation, 165 metres over the bay, with the lit waterfront on one side and Orchard's glow on the other. A dusk rotation, timed to end as the grove lights come on, is the calm way to open a Wonderland evening, and in the countdown week it becomes the high seat for the bay's build-up.

Christmas Day Itself
Friday 25 December is a public holiday in Singapore, and the season does not pause for it. The malls along Orchard Road open and trade through the day under the lights, the attractions keep their festive hours, Christmas Wonderland runs its evening sessions, and the Flower Dome keeps its 9am to 9pm day. What changes is the tempo around the edges: offices are closed, the churches and the hotels' Christmas lunches fill, and the night before belongs to the street party on Orchard Road. For a visitor it is one of the easiest Christmas Days in the region: everything on this page is open, and the only booking that matters is lunch. Friday 1 January is a public holiday as well, which gives the countdown a long weekend to land in.
New Year: The Marina Bay Countdown
The season closes where the Bay season began, on the water. The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2027 is confirmed for Thursday 31 December 2026 on the official calendar, organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, with fireworks over the water at midnight and the whole waterfront free to stand on. The detailed programme, the evening's performances, the road closure map and the extended train hours, is published in late November, and our countdown guide is the page that carries it when it lands. For scale, the previous edition staged its fireworks in four acts from 11pm around the bay, with countdown projections on the Fullerton Hotel; treat that as last year's shape rather than this year's promise. Beyond the bay, the ONE Countdown celebrations run at the Sports Hub, Sentosa, Clarke Quay and heartland sites on the same night, on the pattern of recent years. Wherever you stand, the planning rules hold: waterfront spots fill from the early evening, pick your homeward station before midnight, and book the room now, because the bay's fireworks view rooms sell months ahead.
