Deepavali in Little India
Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, centres on the Serangoon Road light-up in Little India.
Singapore with children
A theme park island, a zoo and night safari in the rainforest, gardens with a waterfall indoors, and hawker centres where dinner is an adventure in itself. Singapore with a family is easy in the ways that matter.
Theme park days anchor most family trips: Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa for the rides, with S.E.A. Aquarium next door for younger children. The Mandai parks are the other pillar: the Zoo in the morning cool, River Wonders for the pandas, and the Night Safari after dark, which older children remember longest. Festival nights give children the city at its most alive: Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay in December, the Supertree light show every evening, and the National Day fireworks in August. Garden and island days carry the quieter hours: Jewel's Rain Vortex and canopy mazes on an airport day, and the ferry to Lazarus Island for a beach.
Convenience stores are on every corner with milk, snacks and suncream at all hours, and children under seven travel free on the MRT and buses with a fare-paying adult. The MRT beats traffic with a stroller, every station has lifts, and Changi is built for families in transit. Heat and rain are the real planning constraints all year: do the outdoor sights early, rest or swim through the middle of the day, and go out again for the evening. A thunderstorm can close the outdoor rides for an hour, so park days earn a spare morning.
The days out below book up in season or reward an early start; each card explains how that attraction is really booked.
