Getting there and around

One airport, one metro, one island.

Singapore is compact and connected like nowhere else: Changi Airport in the east, an MRT network that reaches every event district, the Sentosa cable car and monorail, and ferries to the southern islands and Batam. Get the gateways straight and the whole calendar opens up.

Arriving

Changi Airport (SIN) sits at the island's eastern end, and almost every visitor arrives through it. The MRT's East West line runs from the airport to the city in about 40 minutes with one easy change at Tanah Merah, taxis and ride-hailing leave from every terminal, and Jewel Changi, the garden dome with the Rain Vortex, is attached to Terminal 1 for a first or last stop. The land border matters too: the Causeway and the Second Link cross to Johor Bahru in Malaysia, with buses from Queen Street and Woodlands.

Getting around the city

The MRT is the system everything hangs off: six lines with stations at or near every major venue on this calendar, from Stadium station for The Kallang to Bayfront for Marina Bay Sands and Esplanade station for the theatres on the bay. An EZ-Link card, a SimplyGo contactless bank card or phone payment works at every gate and on every bus. Taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps the rails leave, and late night event crowds are the one time to expect a queue for both.

Sentosa and the southern islands

Sentosa is its own short hop: the Sentosa Express monorail from VivoCity, the boardwalk on foot, or the cable car from Mount Faber and HarbourFront, which is the arrival worth paying for once. Ferries from Marina South Pier serve the southern islands, St John's, Lazarus and Kusu, and the terminals at HarbourFront and Tanah Merah run to Batam and Bintan in Indonesia.

The luggage trick

Changi's terminals and Jewel hold bags by the day, and the airport's early check-in counters in Jewel take luggage hours before a flight for many airlines. Travelling light between a morning exhibition and an evening concert, with the suitcase waiting at the airport, is how the city does long days.
