2009 Merlin Award Winners & “Singapore Celebrity Magic Duo” (Channel News Asia), J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning are introducing a “rojak” (local slang for a “mix”) of variety arts to the local heartland.

This entertainment production brings the variety arts right into the heart of the community, making it accessible to families of all ages, from young to old.

Hosted by ‘Magic Babe’ Ning as the show’s sexy ring mistress, The Urban Circus will feature a mix of professional and amateur talent, each showcasing their unique variety art forms.

Expect stunts and escapes acts from Larry the Daredevil Magician including a dangerous illusion with swords & a spear and his signature one-handed mailbag escape.

Singapore’s only Female Magic Juggler, Kinetic Gal, will debut Singapore’s first Kids Illusion Show where she will attempt to divide herself into half while “yoyo-ing” and presenting an illusion with a giant Rubik’s Cube.

Dean Wong, Singapore’s youngest magic star, and winner of J C & Ning’s “Own the Stage” will present his amazing act that has been presented on TV and live events across Singapore.

Also in the show will be mysterious Magic Parasol Manipulator, Jazz Ang, and lovely exotic Belly Dancer, Charmaine Kho.

“Singapore’s celebrity magic duo” (Channel News Asia), J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will attempt their most mind boggling feat yet – the advance prediction of winning 4D lottery numbers.

The entire “stunt” will take place over a period of one-week.

PART 1 – 22 Jan 2010 at 8.30pm, St James Power Station Main Entrance

On Fri, in front of a live audience, J C & Ning will seal their 4-digit number prediction in a giant red packet (红包).

The prediction, in the form of a written note as well as a single purchased lottery ticket for a  single number, will be placed into a plastic clear tube with caps.

In plain view, this clear tube will then be locked into a see-through tamper-proof Lexan and aluminum container. This container will then be incased in an outer Plexiglas box. A gold seal will be placed over the padlock and signed by a representative of the Singapore Tourism Board who will be auditing the proceedings.

The prediction will remain sealed and left suspended 3m above the ground, in front of St James Power Station’s main entrance for the next 6 days.

The public is free to come by to view the suspended prediction chest anytime (24/7) over the course of the week. Additional security cameras and security personnel will be deployed to ensure that the clear acrylic chest holding the lottery prediction is kept safe and untampered by anyone, including J C & Ning’s team.

PART 2 - 27 Jan 2010 at 6.30pm, St James Power Station The Boiler Room

On the following Wed, J C & Ning will open the chest and reveal their prediction, once the official 4D results are drawn by Singapore Pools.

Members of the public are invited to come down to The Boiler Room @ St James at 6.30pm on this date to witness this ‘live’ revelation of the 4D prediction by the veteran illusionists in real time. Admission is also free.

As the name implies, “Sexy Magic/ Urban Illusions” will tantalize audiences with unique illusions that include a firey opening illusion act, a surreal dissecting & floating head illusion and an impossible roller coaster sawing in half finale!

“Sexy Magic/ Urban Illusions” is a 60-minute show and will be staged at St James Power Station’s “The Boiler Room” outlet that holds 200 people in a free seating/ standing club environment.

Master Lecture by J C Sum (60min)

During Magic Boutique’s Magic Day @ The Arena, J C will present a 60min Master Lecture on “Urban Classic Magic”. He will share with participants 4 classic magic acts/ routines and how he has transformed them to relevant presentation pieces for today’s urban audiences.

J C will be sharing a collection of close-up, parlour and stage routines.

Rope Magic

J C will present his new urban version of a Ring & Rope routine that does not use a traditional ring or rope and is perfect for contemporary audiences. Through this original routine, J C will be sharing my rope handling based off work by David Williamson, George Sands and Daryl.

Many of the moves also form the basis of J C’s Knife & Rope routine that Ning performs a modern version of in her “Deadly Sexy Magic” One Gal Show (which will also be showcased at the ticketed portion of Magic Day).

Psychological Aces

A simple but very effective audience participative Ace assembly. This is NOT the popular-type of “Dream of Aces”/ “Grandpa Aces” routine but is a straight forward routine that shows the devastating impact of sleight of hand coupled with psychological misdirection.

Miser’s Dream

A hit of “Ultimate Magic” and one of my most popular lecture items. J C brings a couple of new techniques into the classic Miser’s Dream, most notably how the routine starts.

J C will also share my collection of coin pails and show which one is hands-down the best one on the market to use.

Cups & Balls

J C’s two-cup/ two-ball routine was featured in the Concept:Magic Micro Convention in Jan 2007, more than 2 years ago. This was the routined used extensively every week when J C was doing close-up exclusively from 1995 – 1998, performing a corporate events as well as being the resident magician or Shangri-la Hotel, Four Seasons, Hilton, Lion City Hotel and Tony Romas restaurant.

Building a Show

J C will also be lecturing on performance skills and techniques as well as elements of stage craft which are outlined in his lecture notes. One of the main chapters in the lecture notes is building a show, as opposed to a short manipulation act. The lecture notes will benefit anyone looking to put together a professional level show, regardless of whether you are doing magic for fun, semi professionally or for charity.

Q & A

J C & Ning will also be conducting a Q & A to answer any questions you have with regards to magic and performing professionally. This is your chance to hear answers from the source if you have any questions that you have been dying to ask.

“Deadly Sexy Magic” Showcase by ‘Magic Babe’ Ning (20min)

This is the act that ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will perform as the headlining performer for the Southern England Magic Convention in the U.K. Watch Ning’s distinctive stage acts that propelled her to stardom. These include Singapore’s media magic darling’s “Linking Coat Hangers”, “Straight Jacket Striptease” and “Razor Blade Tongue Twister” routines.
