Organised by the Life Art Society to mark its 36th anniversary, Dr. Balaji Sadasivan, Senior Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs will launch the Art Exhibition on 19 September 2008 (Thursday) at 7.30pm at the National Library Plaza, Ground Level. The exhibition’s theme is Art for Everyone - as art is meant for everyone and for the benefit of one’s well-being.

The highlight of the launch is the start of a 4-day effort by artists to make their mark in calligraphy and Chinese painting on a 16ft x 6ft wall mural. Dr Sadasivan himself will be the first to paint, followed by primary and secondary school students. The Life Art Society is inviting members of the public, artists or not, to come forward to join the society’s members from all walks of life in this painting effort.

More than 700 art pieces from primary, secondary and tertiary schools; and well known local and foreign artists, will be on display and for sale. The exhibition from 20-22 Sep is open to members of the public daily from 11am to 7pm.

The Life Art Society was established in 1972 as a non-profit organization and has been creative in bringing art to everyone in the hope of making art an integral part of one’s lifestyle. Its main focus is on Chinese brush painting and calligraphy. The society has won the 1980 Singapore Youth Award, the 1981 Commonwealth Community Service Award, and the 2003 National Arts Council Arts Supporter Award. Its members come from all over the world.

Its last event was the National Day Art Exhibition 2006 graced by President SR Nathan.
Han’s Art, a local art organization and a supporter of this event, is proud to be associated with the Life Art Society.

Venue: SG Private Banking Gallery, Alliance Francaise de Singapour
Opening Times: Mon - Fri 11am - 7pm, Sat and Sun 11am - 5pm

Practicing artist Lim Poh Lai presents Falmouth Inspirations as his fifth solo exhibition. This exhibition comprises three groups of works: Street Scenes, Hand Expressions, and Nude in Interior and Exterior.

Inspired by a town in Cornwall in England, Falmouth, Poh Lai began to paint the essence of the town and the deep impressions it left on him. He then moved on to the expressions of hands to conjure the notion of love between couples, and the community. Nude in Interior and
Exterior is a study of the human figure and its interaction with the architectural space.

Lim Poh Lai has been a recipient of National ArtsCouncil????s Art Bursaries and Lee Foundation Bursary for 2005. He holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts from University College Falmouth, in Cornwall, UK.

In the cultivated Chinese mind, the four arts: painting, poetry, calligraphy and seal carving embody the spirit of Chinese thought and aesthetics. This exhibition features a modest assemblage of ink works by local and guest artists from the Academy’s art collection through which they express their innermost aspirations in the classical medium with a touch of modernity.
