Date: 22 Jan 2010, 8pm to 27 Jan 2010, 7pm

“Singapore’s celebrity magic duo” (Channel News Asia), J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will attempt their most mind boggling feat yet – the advance prediction of winning 4D lottery numbers.

The entire “stunt” will take place over a period of one-week.

PART 1 – 22 Jan 2010 at 8.30pm, St James Power Station Main Entrance

On Fri, in front of a live audience, J C & Ning will seal their 4-digit number prediction in a giant red packet (红包).

The prediction, in the form of a written note as well as a single purchased lottery ticket for a single number, will be placed into a plastic clear tube with caps.

In plain view, this clear tube will then be locked into a see-through tamper-proof Lexan and aluminum container. This container will then be incased in an outer Plexiglas box. A gold seal will be placed over the padlock and signed by a representative of the Singapore Tourism Board who will be auditing the proceedings.

The prediction will remain sealed and left suspended 3m above the ground, in front of St James Power Station’s main entrance for the next 6 days.

The public is free to come by to view the suspended prediction chest anytime (24/7) over the course of the week. Additional security cameras and security personnel will be deployed to ensure that the clear acrylic chest holding the lottery prediction is kept safe and untampered by anyone, including J C & Ning’s team.

PART 2 - 27 Jan 2010 at 6.30pm, St James Power Station The Boiler Room

On the following Wed, J C & Ning will open the chest and reveal their prediction, once the official 4D results are drawn by Singapore Pools.

Members of the public are invited to come down to The Boiler Room @ St James at 6.30pm on this date to witness this ‘live’ revelation of the 4D prediction by the veteran illusionists in real time. Admission is also free.

Date: 21st June 2009 (Sunday)

Time: 6pm

Location: Central Gallery (Retail Mall located at Clarke Quay MRT)

In the current age of CGI, special effects and ‘reality’ television, entertainment has lost its authenticity. On Sunday 21 June 2009, Singapore’s only professional female magician & escape artist, ‘Magic Babe’ Ning, will be bringing back real danger in a live extreme escape stunt.

Like an early-day Jackie Chan stunt, ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will be attempting a legitimately dangerous escape dubbed Inversion. This stunt is a one-off variation of her signature Straight Jacket Striptease act which Ning candidly describes as “Harry Houdini meets the Pussycat Dolls”.

In addition to being strapped up in the restraint jacket, Ning will also be blindfolded and suspended upside down by her ankles 3 stories high in the air. What makes this escape unique is the fact that she will not be using any safety devices of any kind. Any mistake could lead to a fatal fall.

The choice of not using a safety line in the escape has drawn much concern and criticism from friends, family, clients, peers and supporters from across the world. Typically, escapes of this nature will utilize some form of fail-safes or safety devices that are either used openly or covertly.

The new Inversion escape stunt is to promote a mega magic event that ‘Magic Babe’ Ning and her onstage partner, J C Sum, will be helming as the closing highlight of the Singapore River Festival 2009 organized by the Singapore Tourism Board.

Entitled The Impossible Record, the magic duo is attempting to set a world record for “most number of grand illusions in 5 minutes” on Sat, 27 June ’09, 9.30pm at Central Promenade by the Singapore River.

Come Sat, 27 Jun 2009 @ 9:30pm, the Singapore Tourism Board will close the 9-day long Singapore River Festival with a world record magic act held at Central Promenade by the Singapore River.

Set to a countdown timer in front of an expected audience of 5000 people, two illusionists will attempt to perform a world record-setting 15 grand illusions in 5 minutes.

Grand illusions are defined as large-scale stage magic acts that involve physicality and usually utilize, but not limited to, large props. Sleight of hand acts, card tricks, magic with birds or handkerchiefs do not constitute as grand illusion.

The one-off spectacular is aptly entitled “The Impossible Record” and will be adjudicated by the Singapore Book of Records and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (Singapore & U.S.A). The record is the first ever magic record of any kind to be adjudicated by the Singapore Book of Records and is also being submitted to Guinness World Records.

The two illusionists selected to helm this act are local celebrity magic duo, J C Sum & ’Magic Babe’ Ning. Last September, the pair teleported 3 people across the Singapore River in 2.5 seconds for the inaugural Singapore River Festival in what Channel News Asia called “South East Asia’s Biggest Magic Event”. The mega illusion was a huge success that led to the duo being invited back by STB for this year’s Singapore River Festival.

For “The Impossible Record”, J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will be making themselves appear, vanish, teleport, exchange places, dissect their bodies, pass through solid objects, making a motorcycle appear, and much more in this physically & mentally challenging feat of attempting 15 grand illusions in 5 minutes.

The difficulty of “The Impossible Record” is the precision, physical & mental stamina and technical illusion ability needed to execute all illusions successfully at break-neck speed. J C Sum & ’Magic Babe’ Ning have taken 3 years to master the 15 illusions that will be presented. Each illusion took approximately 120 hours of rehearsal. They have been training for this event since early-Mar 2009 when they were first contacted by STB for the event.

Dutch illusionist, Hans Klok, who presented 10 illusions in 5 minutes last year during a TV studio recording, set the current un-official record.

“The Impossible Record” is free and open to the public.
