The Depiction of World War II in Singaporean and Southeast Asian books for Children
This talk by Khoo Sim Lyn will discuss books written for children (or written to include the child reader) that portray what life was like in Singapore during the Japanese Occupation. To gain a deeper understanding of the Asian experience as a whole, some books set in Southeast Asia will also be discussed.
Selected British Colonial Era Overseas Chinese Personalities and their Links to Communities and Establishments in Singapore, Penang and Yangon
During the British colonial era, many Chinese migrated into the Southeast Asian region where they sank their roots. Rangoon (Yangon), now the commercial capital city of Myanmar (Burma), was then the most important geopolitical strategic location in Southeast Asia. In this presentation, Daw Win will talk about some important personalities and their establishments.
